New-Work Mailing list |
|
Internet Standards Development Organizations A number of organizations develop technical specifications or standards related to the Internet. The areas of interest often overlap between two or more organizations. The new-work mailing list has been set up to facilitate exchange of information regarding new work considered and/or started in any of these organizations.
Information Exchange The information exchanged is a shared interest between all the participating organizations. The intention is to ensure better communication between organizations and to let everyone better understand where liaison and coordination is needed.
Commitment The only commitment the
participating organizations have undertaken is to send an ASCII message to
this list prior to deciding to start a
new standardization effort related to the Internet. Trust model Information
sent to the new-work mailing list may represent early plans that have not yet
been finalized. As a result, the information is intended for coordination use
only within the represented organizations. It would be inappropriate, for any organization but the
original sender, to use this
information as a public statement about commitments or agreed upon goals for
the standards development organization in question. However,
it is expected that information sent to the list can be freely distributed
within the organizations involved. Posting information that can not be
distributed openly is generally discouraged, except in particularly special
circumstances that should be explicitly noted. Simple process The information exchange is deliberately kept as simple and easy as possible, just the mailing list where a few people from each organization have posting right, and an equally small number are subscribed. Dissemination of the information received from the list is up to each organization to manage. In order to avoid difficulties with multiple layers of mailing lists the subscription has been kept to individuals. The recipients should follow up any case where there appears to be an issue of coordination or liaison, using any suitable procedures.
In cases where complete specifications are being fast-tracked by one of the participating organizations, the warning message should be sent at the earliest possible stage.
Extending the list The list may be expanded: It is intended for organizations that actively produce Internet-related technical specifications.
If you believe that your organization should be added to the list, please write to the list manager.
